The plan: remove the hood, remove the shroud, remove the radiator, horns, and then check the brakes...
Passenger side bracket
Looking down at one of the horns... See the F.I. air inlet in the core support?
Shroud bracket - removed later. Notice bolt, lock washer, washer.
|
Same 455 horn, with date code: "3B3" - that's the 3rd week of Feb., 1963 That works, for a March '63 car!
The other horn...well, not an original. We'll need a 456 (passenger side)
Radiator out
Lots of room
Rubber mallet for the knock-off wheels
Off with the knock-off
Nice set of Kelsey Hayes knockoff wheels ("K-H D-49985", encircled in a racetrack oval)
Brake check time...
Easier said, than done. Drums were stuck
A lot of muscle
Finally got it off. Turns out, the drum was 'out-of-round'. But, the brake shoes were fairly new. You could see how they were only making contact with part of the drum surface.
Hard to see, but that circle, to the left of the K-H part number, is actually the date coded ink stamp.
A close up of the ink stamp
